<h3>Introductie</h3>
<p><img src="images/vaals.jpg" width="202" height="127" align="right" alt="Thomashuis 'de Borg' in winter">Onlangs
zijn de deuren van Nederlands vierde Thomashuis, in Vaals midden
in het prachtige Limburgse heuvelandschap, open gegaan. De voormalige
Sneeuwbergappartementen is Thomashuis de Borg geworden. Dit
project wordt mede ondersteund door de Provincie Limburg</p>
<p>Een Thomashuis biedt aan verstandelijk beperkte medeburgers
een veilig en verzorgde plek om te logeren of permanent te wonen.</p>
<p>Thomashuis de Borg van Henk en Hennie van Vliet-Linders (boven
rechts) biedt een unieke combinatie van voorzieningen. Er zijn
zes kamers gereserveerd voor permanent verblijf, twee kamers
voor tijdelijk bezetting en twee appartementen voor gezinnen
met of zonder een verstandelijk beperkte gezinslid. Uitzonderlijk
is dat het huis ook in het bezit is van een horeca-vergunning,
en deze horeca gelegenheid wordt gedeeltelijk verzorgd door
de permanente bewoon(st)ers van het huis. Dit is een voorbeeld
van de verwerkelijking van het streven van de Stichting Thomashuizen
Nederland om de integratie tussen maatschappij en zorg zo optimaal
mogelijk te benutten.</p>
<p>Verstandelijk beperkte mensen hebben vaak speciale behoeftes
voor wat betreft hun verzorging. Het huis kan alles bieden op
zorggebied wat haar bewoon(st)ers nodig hebben. Doordat het
huis getoetst en goedgekeurd is naar Art. 19 BW kunnen de kosten
voor het logeren en de eventuele begeleidingsuren ingekocht
worden via het Persoonsgebonden Budget (P.G.B.)</p>
